iPhone 5 pre-orders 2 million in 24 hours, doubles iPhone 4S record
The iPhone 5 has witnessed million pre-orders within 24 hours. This was announced in a press release by Apple. This is twice the record of iPhone 4S, which saw 1 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours.
The pre-orders for new iPhones are doubling every year. Back in 2010, the pre-orders for iPhone 4 were 600,000 in 24 hours, the iPhone 4S had 1 million, and the iPhone 5 is now on top with 2 million within the same window.
Apple today announced pre-orders of its iPhone 5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S. Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October. iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, completely redesigned to feature a stunning new 4-inch Retina display; an Apple-designed A6 chip for blazing fast performance; and ultrafast wireless technology*—all while delivering even better battery life.**
“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
Apple stated last week that the initial pre-orders blew them away. AT&T also confirmed that iPhone 5 was the fastest selling iPhone yet in terms of pre-orders. There’s an iPhone 5 line since a week at NYC Apple Store. The initial pre-orders began on Friday, 14th September in US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong. The release is set for the 21st of September. More countries which include Denmark, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Norway, Slovenia, Slovaki, Sweden, Switzerland, on the 28th of September, although it’s unclear whether there will be online pre-orders in these countries or not.
Apart from the releases in these countries, Apple plans to target 100 countries and 240 carriers for the iPhone 5 availability by December 2012. The sixth-generation iPhone looks like a must have. Feel free to comment!
